More Than Just A Pretty Picture: How Flickr uses meta-data to build stories through photos

Presenter: Markus Spiering, Head of Product, Flickr

Flickr's mission has always been to find ways to help you showcase your photos and share them with the people that matter. However, the full story of your photo is often more than just the visual image. The real stories behind individual photos and collections can often be found in the meta-data associated with the image. From data in the EXIF such as date, location, camera type and settings to user-generated data like titles, tags, and descriptions, to what is being shared and interacted with on Flickr and elsewhere, this data all works together to give rich context and possibilities to the over 8 billion photos housed on Flickr and beyond.  Hear from Flickr's Head of Product, Markus Spiering, on how Flickr is actively developing ways to extract and understand information from photos to create the best photo sharing and photo cataloging experience, including highlights of some of the most interesting implementations of this data from the community who have built out thousands of unique applications.
